Exploring the next step in video-based assessment

A child communicates a need more clearly. A familiar routine becomes easier. A family notices a change that is difficult to describe during a brief appointment.
How can those everyday observations help clinicians understand what is changing over time?
At Behavior Imaging, that question is guiding our next stage of research.
Through NODA, our remote autism assessment platform, we have spent years helping families share home video with clinicians. These recordings bring everyday behavior into the assessment process, providing a perspective beyond the examination room.
Our emerging NODA-AI research builds on that foundation. We are exploring how artificial intelligence, informed by clinician-annotated video, could help identify and quantify patterns in social communication, repetitive behavior, and other autism-related characteristics—and examine how those patterns change within an individual over time.
The goal is to give clinicians and families additional evidence to interpret together. A change in behavior needs context: what was happening, what support was available, and whether the change matters to the person’s daily life.
For us, meaningful progress includes communication, comfort, participation, and greater opportunities for independence.
This work brings together our experience in video-based assessment, clinical collaboration, and the lived experience of families. AI-based measurement of change remains a research effort requiring careful clinical validation.
We welcome conversations with researchers, clinicians, and organizations interested in advancing practical, person-centered approaches to behavioral assessment.
