Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), Student/Staff Assessment

Education Assessment

Stemming from research funded by the National Institutes of Health, Behavior Imaging® has been incorporated into online solutions to revolutionize how student, health worker or educator progress data can be collected and securely shared, organized and assessed … anywhere, anytime. Educators, Health Instructors and Supervisors can use Behavior Imaging to:

  • Assess student, health worker, or educator progress
  • Do remote consultation with on-demand video
  • Supervise and train stuff
  • Track and document baseline vs learned skills
  • Upload scanned or faxed images of student or teacher work, video images, photos, and audio clips
  • Assemble this information into a standards-based portfolio for each student
  • Score portfolios with scorers working from home, school, or any remote location
  • Better enable teachers to teach the skills being assessed

Applications

  • Capture behavioral incidents in natural environments
  • Record therapy and testing sessions for supervisory review
  • Record custom videos for patients and caregivers
  • Annotate and organize video library
  • Capture behavioral incidents in classroom
  • Capture student progress

Benefits

  • Eliminate cumbersome paper-based processes
  • Reduce assessment expense by up to 50 percent
  • Save time for teachers & staff through more efficient reporting
  • Enhance communication with students by recording and cataloging behaviors
  • Provide secure error-free reporting and scoring
  • Increase teacher, supervisor, and administrator efficiency
  • Meet No Child Left Behind and state-specific reporting requirements
  • Manage the complexities, time and costs associated with Alternate Assessment

Case Studies

“Behavior Imaging technology has saved us a tremendous amount of time. I communicate remotely with other teachers and behavioral specialists about students using the Behavior Imaging video. It reduces the need to travel or have teachers visit us to observe a child.”

Jeanna Hart,Special Education Teacher, Les Bois Junior High

Les Bois Junior High is using Behavior Imaging technology to treat children with autism in special education classrooms. Teachers are using Behavior Connect (formerly B.I. Capture) to record problematic behaviors and the events leading up to those behaviors using the technology’s buffering feature, which allows users to go back in time to determine the antecedent to an incident. Teachers are also using the videos for remote consultation. After they capture videos and annotate them, they send them via a secure, central data repository to another teacher or behavioral specialist anywhere in the world for diagnosis. Behavior Imaging video technology is not only saving teachers time and schools money, but it also significantly improves teachers’ abilities to treat children with autism.

Major Cost Savings

“The results of this operational assessment are encouraging,” said retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Timothy Lacy, MD “…many families have limited access to certified behavioral healthcare providers and therapists. This technology partially addresses that problem by providing remote access to expert professional supervision and therapy.”

Timothy Lacy, MD,Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel

In 2010, we concluded research conducted on behalf of the U.S. Air Force Medical Service, who used the Behavior Connect platform to facilitate remote access to applied behavior analysis (ABA) involving 33 military families with at least one child with autism. Sessions and behavior were then reviewed and annotated remotely by certified ABA therapy supervisors at four autism service agencies. Pre- and post- assessment surveys demonstrated:

  • Significant time and expense savings for therapist and family
  • More relevant information communicated to caregiver and therapist
  • Better understanding of complex behaviors by therapist supervisor
  • More accurate assessments of behavioral trends and progress
  • More effective supervision and training of therapists in the field
